If you’re planning on fishing for trout on SPRING”S GREATEST DAY, brianbrown5-10-16April 8…

you’ll need a freshwater fishing licence from RIDEM.

Resident licenses cost $18 while visitors can fish for $35.

If you want to keep your catch, a trout stamp is required for an additional $5.50.

RIDEM now offers online licenses but stamps will still needed to be purchased in person.

Most town halls, tackle stores, Benny’s, some hardware stores, and the DEM station out in The Great Swamp will have licenses.

As DEM Law Enforcement cannot check your license if you do not have it with you, they consider it a Failure To Show and will issue you a citation, so get your license, carry it on your person and if possible, photograph it and keep it on your smart phone.

You can get your online license at https://www.ri.gov/DEM/fishinglicense/

For the parents of young fishermen, RIDEM has set aside several ponds for those 14 years and younger. Frosty Hollow Pond in Exeter, Hopkinton’s Lloyd Kenney Pond, Geneva Brook & Pond in North Providence, Lapham Pond in Burrillville, Seidel’s Pond in Cranston and Cumberland’s Silvy’s Pond are all designated areas and with the expected crush of Saturday morning anglers, these are solid safe havens for making sure kids get a fair shot at experiencing the magic of opening day.
