High Performance Titan Pro Roto 55Q Cooler: Sturdy and Clever Adventure Gear
For spending time on the road or in the woods, packing the best cooler is essential. For multi-day adventures, long-term ice storage is even more critical. No one needs a fun trip ruined by a cheap cooler. The Artic Zone team, with 40 years invested in designing tough and long-lasting outdoors gear, rethought traditional multi-day storage to build a well-engineered tool for adventurers and home use. Rugged, smooth, clever and lighted is the short story for this new 55 quart cooler. Testing Titan’s Pro55Q cooler proved to me there are still companies specifically focused on crafting premium quality outdoors gear that is worth every penny.
Full Disclosure: My garage is full of tested products. I don’t accept gear to accumulate more stuff. My goal is to find the best and write off the least. Testing Titan’s Pro55Q cooler renewed my faith in premium quality outdoors gear that doesn’t rely on gimmicks built for short shelf lives and quick profits.
Remember a few years back, when some height challenged engineer had a hard time reaching a box of it doesn’t matter what in the back of her pickup truck and thought, “Damn, I wish there was a step on my bumper so I could reach that thing.” Some years later, we we had steps in bumpers because it was obvious we needed them. Well, that’s the head scratcher many had when trying to find something in a cooler, at night, which we just know will always be at the bottom. That’s when someone said, “Damn, I wish there was a light in this cooler so I could see something.” When the Titan Pro 55Q first showed up at Fish Wrap Headquarters, I knew right away everything else about this cooler would follow in the pattern of just plain smart. From woven handles to a hearty drain plug, the engineers at Arctic Zone have absolutely nailed the art of rugged, good looking, reliable long-trip coolers that have everything we need, including a light.
Titan Pro 55Q Is Next Generation Clever
For some background, we all lived quite comfortably with old school plastic coolers. They protected cold drinks and sandwiches through a beach day or taking in a drive in movie. But the next morning, there was 6″ of water, soggy sandwiches and the few surviving beers were barely cold enough for breakfast. But we managed because that was all we had. Then came a revolution in air insulated coolers, with inflated price points and suddenly, our Colemans were pushed under workbenches and back cellar corners. (They’re great for keeping sweaters protected from winter moths) Then, thankfully, some frugal engineer sat with a businessperson and said there was no way they were spending that kind money on a fancy cooler. I envision that after that statement, napkins became blueprints, a second round was ordered, designs were created, papers were torn to show savings and when the last idea was on the table, we became the beneficiaries of the Titan Pro 55Q.
Built to last while years roll past like cloudscapes in the sky
Show me something built to last and something built to try. Robert HunterTOP TECH:
- Handles, Latches, Hinges. The Titan Pro 55Q has woven handles constructed into the sides, which can be easily removed. Two main latches are real life strong to ensure that what happens in the Titan stays in the Titan. Close ’em up, snap ’em down, give ’em a shake. They’re solid and they stay up and don’t fall down while you’re opening the other one (simple but so smart). Running the whole width, the hinge system is integrated; it’s not a few cheap screws through a thin plastic piece.
- Integrated bottle opener. No more,“I thought you had one,” moments at the beach. Brilliant.
- Main gasket. I love the thick top gasket, which is a sentence I never thought I’d write but I did, because it’s not junk and it’s recessed so if you use your Titan Pro 55Q as a seat, it won’t get crushed and it locks in the bottle opener.
- Drain plug. How many have you lost from cheap coolers? This one is military tough and secured with a landyard. Built to last.
- Lock site. Canoeing a North Maine Woods stream while worrying someone might decide to keep your cooler for their own? The Titan Pro 55Q has a padlock spot to secure your stash.
Yes, at an IPA shy of thirty-two pounds, it’s a bit on the heavy side but that’s a reasonable tradeoff for reliable multi-day ice protection.
It’s The Cooler We’ve Waited For
Back to the light.
It illuminates the cooler’s insides, comes on when the top is opened (even shuts off after five minutes if you get distracted) is removable to use as a cool wide angle light and you can push a button for an old school flashlight. That’s the only old school part of the Titan Pro 55Q. Plus, that innovation means you don’t need a phone flashlight app so you can keep that thing turned off.
After a few days of adventure, supplies start to get low so air naturally warms ice. Titan Pro 55Q coolers come with an Ice Saver Performance Booster. Quick read: a high tech layer separating cold supplies from warm air. I suspect this came from another napkin drawing. It settles down as ice melts, which takes a very long time, so there’s no need to keep checking the cooler while you’re supposed to be biking, climbing or napping. The whole deal has been treated with Microban to reduce 99% of bacteria from settling on surfaces.
While not as sexy as camping or climbing, we also need reliable coolers when we lose power. This should be part of your prepardness plan for prolonged rainfall deluges and wicked windstorms which take down power lines and leave us wondering how long this year’s venison stash will last without power. Load up a Titan Pro 55Q, pack it with ice and concentrate on explaining why you never did buy that generator that was on sale last summer.
Last year, I tested an ORU kayak, the one inspired by origami and common outdoors sense. Through every step of assembly, I was amazed at how much thought went into each fold. That’s the message with a Titan Pro 55Q: they planned for everything. They anticipated our real world cooler expectations and created a multi-day ice chest that’s tough as we need our gear to be.
With the Titan Pro 55Q, quality does not suffer for price. Retailing for around $400.00, it is worth every cent. Load it, latch it, lock it, watch it hold your food and beverages for days while you concentrate on all the fun you deserve before heading back to camp, or the kitchen.
